Our Ivanhowe proves superior wet tracker in Ranvet Stakes

March 18th, 2017

German import Our Ivanhowe recorded his second Group 1 win on Australian soil when he proved to be the superior wet tracker in taking out the Group 1 $700,000 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill today.

Even though Our Ivanhowe won the Group 1 $650,000 Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup (2000m) at Doomben during the 2016 Brisbane Winter Carnival on a good track, co-trainers Lee and Anthony Freedman had always considered the seven year to be better on rain affected tracks.

“It panned out beautifully for us,” Anthony Freedman said.

“The horse deserves his day in the sun. Very grateful to have a horse like, so genuine, even on hard tracks when he is feeling the ground, he gives everything and I was just proud of the horse today that he got his ground and he did the job.”

“The agent in Germany that sold him to the boys said that this is the best wet tracker in the world and he may well be. We just have to find more of them.”

Winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy who won this race last year on The United States, settled Our Ivanhowe ($8) in the second half of the seven horse field and let the big bay wind up in the straight to power to the line on the heavy track to beat the $2.90 favourite Hartnell by three and a quarter lengths.

The Robert Hickmott trained The United States ($4.60) plugged away in the straight to finish in third position.

Our Ivanhowe was unplaced from four runs during the 2016 Spring and was having his first run back since finishing seventeenth to Almandin in the Group 1 $6m Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington.
