Hartnell failed to fire at his most recent start, but the classy gelding remains a clear $1.95 favourite in 2017 Ranvet Stakes betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Hartnell has been a standout through his entire racing career so far, but has undoubtedly found his best form since arriving in Australia.

Resuming in spring for second behind Winx in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m), the Authorized gelding posted dominant wins in each of the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) and Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) before securing his second career Group 1 win in the Turnbull Stakes (2000m).

Having returned to the paddock after running second in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) and third in the Melbourne Cup, Hartnell ran second in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) first-up this time, in what was his only other start prior to finishing eighth in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) last time out.

William Buick will take the ride on Hartnell for the first time in the Ranvet Stakes and will leave from barrier 6.

The United States has so-far received the greatest amount of attention in 2017 Ranvet Stakes betting markets and has firmed into outright second-favouritism at a $5 quote.

The United States has been a standout for the prominent Macedon Lodge stable through recent seasons and won the Ranvet Stakes in 2016, before finishing second in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on Day 2 of The Championships.

Having resumed this time for third in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m), the Galileo entire finished fifth in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington last weekend and should relish a return to the Sydney way of going.

Antonio Giuseppe faded late when second in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m) last weekend, but is the third-favourite in 2017 Ranvet Stakes betting markets at $8.50 odds.

Antonio Giuseppe arrived at Chris Waller’s stable from Kiwi trainer Murray Baker’s care prior to the 2016 Spring Carnival, and immediately stamped himself as one to watch.

Posting four-consecutive wins in a range of Sydney minors, the Shocking gelding ended his maiden Australian campaign second in the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) on October 1st.

Having comfortably beaten a smart field to the line in the James Ruse Handicap (1500m) first-up this time, Antonio Giuseppe will leave from the outside gate, with Tye Angland in the saddle.
