Eight Confirmed in 2017 Ranvet Stakes Field

March 15th, 2017

Eight horses have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2017 Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, highlighted by the inclusion of several previous winners at the highest level of racing.

Hartnell tabled a rare lacklustre performance when eighth in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) last time out, but is positioned well to return to winning form in the Ranvet Stakes field from barrier 6.

Hartnell has been a strong and consistent performer throughout his entire racing career so far, but has undoubtedly found his best condition since arriving in Australia prior to the 2015 Autumn Carnival.

Resuming in spring for second behind Winx in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m), the Authorized gelding posted dominant victories in each of the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) and Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m), before posting his second win at the highest level in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m).

Again finishing second behind Winx in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m), Hartnell was sent to the paddock after ending his year third in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m).

Stratum Star and The United States both contested the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) in Melbourne last weekend, but have been confirmed to back-up on Saturday after accepting into the 2017 Ranvet Stakes field.

Stratum Star posted his first Group 1 win in the 2015 edition of the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m), but appeared to be tailing off through subsequent racing preparations after failing to return to winning form.

Storming back to prominence when he won the talent-rich Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) in December, Stratum Star repeated the effort in the Magic Millions Trophy (2200m) on January 14th and continued his winning run of form through the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m).

Working to the line well to finish fourth in the Australian Cup, the Stratum entire is drawn on the rails in the Ranvet Stakes and should find no issue performing to a typically high standard in the race.

The United States was unable to match the late pace before finishing fifth in the Australian Cup, but is another horse that should relish the conditions of the Ranvet Stakes.

Winner of this race in 2016, The United States has been a strong and consistent performer for Macedon Lodge since his arrival in Australia and is a multiple stakes winner.

Resuming for third in the Peter Young Stakes in what was his only other start prior to the Australian Cup, the Galileo entire has drawn ideally into the Ranvet Stakes field in barrier 3 and will be partnered by Ben Melham.

Antonio Giuseppe faded to finish a distant second in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m) last weekend, but is one of two for trainer Chris Waller in the Ranvet Stakes field, alongside Preferment.

Our Ivanhowe (barrier 5), He’s Our Rokkii (barrier 2) and Sofia Rosa (barrier 7) complete the 2017 Ranvet Stakes field.
