Just seven runners have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens, highlighted by the inclusion of several previous winners at the highest level of racing.
Lucia Valentina (barrier 2) has one two Group 1 races over 2000m, and has been confirmed to target another in the 2015 Ranvet Stakes final field.
Posting five race wins and a further four minor places over her 16 competitive starts so far, Lucia Valentina won the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) most notably over her maiden Australian preparation last autumn; returning for success in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) and a credible third in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) most notably in spring.
Having placed fourth in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) before a luckless run for ninth in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) this time in, the Savabeel mare is always at her best over this distance third-up and will be particularly difficult to beat this weekend as a result.
Contributer (barrier 5) charged home to take out the Chipping Norton Stakes last time out, and has been confirmed for a second-consecutive appearance at Group 1 level in the 2015 Ranvet Stakes.
Securing seven wins and three minor place finishes over her 13 competitive starts so far, Contributer began his career under the guidance of leading British trainer Ed Dunlop before being transferred by Godolphin to the care of John O’Shea late last year.
Taking out the Group 3 David Jones Cup (2000m) in his maiden Australian appearance before a luckless eighth in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m), the High Chaparral entire jogged home to take out the Apollo Stakes first-up in his only other start prior to the Chipping Norton.
Included in nominations for both the Group 1 Doncaster Mile and Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) during The Championships, O’Shea will use the 2015 Ranvet Stakes results to dictate the target for Contributer.
He’s Your Man was a standout performer for Chris Waller over the Spring Carnival, and appears primed for a return to the winner’s circle in the 2015 Ranvet Stakes following an impressive run for third in the Chipping Norton.
A French import, He’s Your Man secured minor place finishes in the Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) and Listed Premier’s Cup (1800m) early in his winter and spring preparation; taking out each of the Listed Winter Challenge Quality (1500m) and Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) before breaking through for a maiden win at the highest level in the featured Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) on October 4th.
Having returned to the paddock following an agonizingly-close second to Happy Trails in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m), the son of Cape Cross will have to overcome the outside barrier if to return to success on Saturday, but is more than capable with Blake Shinn booked for the ride.
Hong Kong raider Dominant (barrier 3) has also been confirmed in the 2015 Ranvet Stakes final field, and is set to be joined by Japanese star Tosen Stardom (barrier 1), 2014 champion Silent Achiever (barrier 6) and the Bruce Wallace-trained Fast Dragon (barrier 4).
