The 2014 Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) is shaping as the most exciting event on an impressive Rosehill Gardens race card this Saturday, with several previous winners at the highest level of Australian Racing confirmed to line up.
Undoubtedly in career best form, 2013 Melbourne Cup Champion Fiorente is opened and maintained status as clear outright favourite for the 2014 Ranvet Stakes, currently offered at a quote of $2.60 ahead of It’s A Dundeel ($3.20), Foreteller ($10) and market mover Carlton House ($11).
Can Fiorente continue his incredible run of form in the 2014 Ranvet Stakes, or will It’s A Dundeel build off an impressive first-up second in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes?
While facing arguably his toughest test for the year so far in classy stayer It’s A Dundeel, Fiorente’s form since claiming the Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday of November last year makes it almost impossible to tip against him. Returning with an incredible turn of foot to claim the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) on February 22nd, the classy Monsun entire hunted down 2012 Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon in the final straight of the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) last time out to continue his incredible run of form. Having drawn the ideal barrier 4 for the Ranvet Stakes, it would seem a lot would have to go against Fiorente to halt his winning streak this weekend.
It’s A Dundeel ($3.20)
It’s A Dundeel was, without doubt, one of the star performers of the 2013 Australian racing calendar, claiming four Group 1 titles; three of which in an impressive autumn preparation and registering as the only runner to defeat equine superstar Atlantic Jewel competitively. Having returned in good form with a strong gallop in the Chipping Norton first-up, trainer Murray Baker is confident the talented High Chaparral entire will be far more polished for the run and should cause serious issues to Fiorente from the inside barrier.
Carlton House ($11)
One of the more interesting runners to accept a position in the final field for the 2014 Ranvet Stakes, Her Majesty The Queen-owned Carlton House is yet to hit peak condition since arriving on Australian shores at the conclusion of 2012. Opening his current preparation with a disappointing run for ninth in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) on February 8th, the Street Cry stallion was unable to sustain a strong charge down the straight in the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) most recently, finishing second behind Opinion. Despite the unfavourable finish, punters have responded to a sharp turn in form from Carlton House, jumping all over opening odds of $17 to register six-year-old as clear $11 market mover.
