Manighar Shows Quality with Ranvet Stakes 2012 Win

March 24th, 2012

Peter Moody trained gelding Manighar has proven his Australian Cup win was no fluke by taking out top honours in today’s 2012 Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.

The six-year-old French horse showed his quality as he beat a high-class field of stayers that included the Australian Cup runner-up Southern Speed and race-favourite Shoot Out.

It was anyone’s game as the horses came around the final bend, with a host of stayers in contention at the front of the field.

On the final straight Shoot Out, Manighar and Rangirangdoo pushed away but Manighar and Rangirangdoo managed to lift down the outside to put a gap on the Chipping Norton Stakes winner.

They battled each other head-to-head down the final straight before Manighar lifted at the end to cross the line a head in front.

Trainer Peter Moody was impressed with the BMW bound import, saying he has learnt how to win in big races.

“He just continues to thrive and he just really enjoys our [Australian] conditions,” Moody said.

It stands as yet another stunning combination for the Peter Moody-Luke Nolen pair and jockey Nolen was full of praise for the prolific trainer.

“Pete’s just tried a few different things and sometimes with old horses that brings them on mentally,” Nolen said.
