2010 Ranvet Stakes Preview

February 8th, 2010

As the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival draws ever closer, the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse will be preparing for one of the feature race days in the carnival; the Coolmore Classic Day.

While the headline race is, of course, the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m), the other elite race is the 2010 Ranvet Stakes, which takes place on the 20th of March.

The 2000m race sees three-year-olds and over competing under weight-for-age conditions for a piece of the $400,000 prize money.

It seems the 2010 Ranvet Stakes is a goal for Jake Stephens-trained Alcopop.

It seems the 2010 Ranvet Stakes is a goal for Jake Stephens-trained Alcopop who came in an impressive sixth spot at the coveted Group 1 Melbourne Cup last year, and also won the Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) and the JRA Cup (2040m). With such good recent form the five-year-old would certainly be a favourite for the race.

Punters for the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) held on the 3rd of April should keep an eye on the proceedings for the 2010 Ranvet Stakes, as often racers go from the Stakes to the BMW.

Also racing on the 20th of March at the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse is the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) and the Group 2 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).
