Ranvet Stakes

The Group 1 2016 Ranvet Stakes is one of the feature races at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney during the Autumn Racing Carnival. A 2,000 metre staying event  for horses three-year-olds and over, the Ranvet Stakes is held under weight-for-age conditions with prize money of $700,000.

In 2016, the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes is set to take place on Saturday March 19th.

Runners in the Ranvet Stakes generally go on to contest the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) a couple of weeks later or the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m), which is now held on the final day of  The Championships at Royal Randwick. Punters should keep a keen eye on the Ranvet Stakes as the winner is exempt from ballot for The BMW.

The Ranvet Stakes is the first weight-for-age race during the Sydney Autumn Carnival over 2000m and so year after year the race draw a quality field of runners. Significant winners of the Group 1 race include Grand Armee (2005), Tie The Knot (2000 and 2001), Super Impose (1991), Better Loosen Up (1990) and Theseo (2009 and 2010).

Ranvet Stakes Day

The Ranvet Stakes is one of two Group 1 races that is held at Ladies Day on Rosehill Gardens during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival each year; with the Coolmore Classic the other feature race on the strong card. Other exciting races on Ranvet Stakes Day include the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m), the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m), the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) and the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes.

Ranvet Stakes Field

The Ranvet Stakes field can be run with a maximum of 18 runners, but in recent years the race has not drawn a capacity field. The 2014 Ranvet Stakes is expected to only feature about ten runners although the field is expected to be paced full of quality; with Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente, New Zealand superstar It’s A Dundeel, two-time Group 1 winner Forteller, Chris Waller-trained Hawkspur and The Queen Of England-owned Carlton House all set to contest the Group 1 event.

Ranvet Stakes Betting

Ranvet Stakes betting is generally very competitive and in recent years there have been a few upsets in the Group 1 event. In 2011 Anthony Cummings-trained Zavite stunned the likes of Melbourne Cup runner-up Maluckyday to win at Ranvet Stakes odds of $100, while Foreteller broke through for his maiden win at Group 1 level in the 2013 edition of the race at a quote of $30. The last favourite to win the Ranvet Stakes was Theseo,who saluted for punters in both 2009 and 2010. Theso capped off an excellent run for Ranvet Stakes favourite; with Tuesday Joy (2008), Desert War (2007), Eremein (2006) and Grand Armee (2005) all winning the race at short odds.
